For the third year in a row, the number of aircraft take-offs and landings at Canadian airports with NAVCANADA air traffic control towers and flight service stations decreased compared with the previous year. These 93 airports reported almost 5.6 million movements in 2011, down 2.7% from 2010.

Over 4.0 million itinerant movements (flights from one airport to another) were recorded in 2011. These airports handled 1.3% fewer movements (-54,869 movements) in 2011 compared with 2010. This represented the third consecutive annual decline.

Local movements (flights that remain in the vicinity of the airport) declined 6.1% (-101,141 movements) in 2011 compared with 2010. This marked the fourth consecutive annual decline.
