Correspondence Table: Standard Classification of Countries and Areas of Interest (SCCAI) 2019 and the Standard Classification of Countries and Areas of Interest (SCCAI) 2022

The correspondence table presented here shows the relationship between SCCAI 2019 (first five columns: code, country or area of interest, Alpha-2, Alpha-3, GSIM type of Change) and SCCAI 2022 (last five columns: code, country or area of interest, Alpha-2, Alpha-3, explanatory note). Changes to country names and codes since 1970 is presented in the list of Current and Historical Countries and Areas of Interest.

Code description

Code: Three-digit numerical code defined by the United Nations.

Alpha-2: Two-character alpha code defined by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

Alpha-3: Three-character alpha code defined by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

The Generic Statistical Information Model (GSIM) is now used to identify the types of changes made to the classification. Real changes (RC) are those affecting the scope of the existing classification items or categories, whether or not accompanied by changes in the title, definition and/or the coding. Virtual changes (VC) are those made in coding, titles and/or definitions, while the meaning or scope of the classification item remains the same.
