Consultative engagement objectives
In 2019, the Accessible Canada Act was published. The Act commits the government and all other federally regulated entities to become fully accessible by 2040. Government departments must identify, remove, and prevent barriers to accessibility.
Statistics Canada is committed to ensuring our products and services are accessible by design and allows all Canadians to access them.
The purpose of this engagement activity is to understand the perspective of persons with lived experience with disability, external partners, and stakeholders. These perspectives will help Statistics Canada better design its products and services to serve the accessibility and disability community in Canada. The goal is to help identify, prevent, and eliminate any barriers persons with disabilities may experience to access and use Statistics Canada’s services and products.
The input collected will be used to:
- Draft Statistics Canada’s 2026-2029 Accessibility Plan.
- Support modifications to hiring policies and protocols.
- Inform how various accessibility pillars address barriers to accessibility in their areas of responsibility.
- Inform how Statistics Canada can adapt data releases to be more inclusive and barrier-free.
- Further learn about how to make surveys and survey data accessible and approachable. This will help ensure data is not only accessible but also more representative of and relevant to all Canadians.
