2024 Census of Agriculture Test

In preparation for the 2026 Census of Population and the 2026 Census of Agriculture, Statistics Canada conducts a census test such as this one, to evaluate new or modified questions, collection procedures and tools. Testing ensures that the quality of data collected in 2026 can support a wide variety of programs.

Every five years, the Census of Agriculture provides a comprehensive and integrated profile of the physical, economical, social and environmental aspects of Canada's agricultural industry. Survey results provide a snapshot in time and highlight changes in the industry when compared against previous censuses. It serves as a basis for public and private decision making and provides research and analysis in areas of concern.

The Census of Agriculture collects a wide range of data at the national, provincial and sub-provincial levels, such as:

  • Number of farms and farm operators;
  • Farm area;
  • Business operating arrangements;
  • Land management practices;
  • Livestock inventories and crop area;
  • Farm operating revenues and expenses;
  • Farm capital;
  • Farm machinery and equipment.
