The mandate of the Analytical Studies Branch (ASB) is to provide high-quality, relevant and timely information on economic, health and social issues that are important to Canadians. The ASB makes strategic use of expert knowledge and a large range of statistical sources to describe, draw inferences from, and make objective and scientifically-supported deductions about the evolving nature of the Canadian economy and society. Research questions are addressed by applying leading-edge methods, including microsimulation and predictive analytics, using a range of linked and integrated administrative and survey data.

Released today, the "Analytical Studies Branch Annual Consolidated Plan for Research, Data Development and Modelling, 2019/2020" addresses a broad range of policy-relevant issues, including innovation and the new economy, the environment, clean technology, global competitiveness, immigration, jobs and employment, financial well-being, education, training and skills, environment and health, nutrition and physical measures, child and youth health, early-learning and child care, housing, substance use, aging, health inequalities and mental health.

ASB researchers work with a broad range of collaborators to ensure that research and data development activities are addressing policy-relevant issues and meeting the needs of users, including federal government agencies and departments, provincial and territorial governments and organizations, non-governmental organizations, academic researchers, as well as international organizations.
