In 2016, just over half of businesses (51%) had at least one environmental management practice. This percentage, however, varies by industry group and enterprise size, and some practices are used more than others. For instance, nearly one-quarter (23%) of Canadian businesses had an environmental management system in 2016, while 11% performed a greenhouse gas emissions inventory.
Environmental management practices are protocols that businesses adopt to reduce their impact on the environment. They can be implemented for various reasons, such as compliance with legislation and government regulations, or a company directive on best practices.
