Today, Statistics Canada is releasing three short portraits that provide an overview of the trends from 2001 to 2016 on the English language in Quebec and the French language in Ontario and the territories.

These fact sheets provide information, taken from the censuses of population and the 2011 National Household Survey, on people who reported these languages as their first official language spoken, mother tongue, or language spoken at home or used at work. The fact sheets also provide information on people who can speak these languages well enough to sustain a conversation.
