Today is Data Privacy Day—a day celebrated by many countries, including Canada, to highlight privacy rights and the importance of protecting personal information in a digital era.

Statistics Canada takes the privacy of Canadians very seriously. All information collected is anonymized. It is never possible to connect data to any individual person or household.

The agency uses state-of-the-art tools, software and processes that prevent disclosure and ensure the confidentiality and privacy of individual data.

All information collected is strictly protected. By law, Statistics Canada cannot share anyone's personal information—not to the police, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Canada Revenue Agency or even the courts.

Visit Statistics Canada's Trust Centre to learn more about how the agency protects the confidentiality of personal information and the privacy of Canadians.
