(Anil Arora, the Chief Statistician of Canada, addresses the audience)
The 2021 Census has arrived! Canada, the 2021 Census of Population and the Census of Agriculture are here!
For over a century, the census has been one of the most important sources of data for planning businesses, schools, roads, hospitals and a number of programs and initiatives that contribute to the strength and health of our country and communities.
In 2001, I was part of the Census team that flew to the Arctic to conduct early enumeration. Our long journey was a testament to our commitment to enumerate all Canadians no matter where they live.
Today, the Census remains equally important but many things have changed. We have completely redesigned the Census collection to ensure everyone's safety during the pandemic. As well, unlike 20 years ago, Canadians can now complete their electronic questionnaire on their computer, their tablet or their smartphone.
Right now, households across the country are receiving a letter with a secure access code and instructions on how to complete their census. To ensure everyone's health and safety, I encourage you to complete the census online at census.gc.ca. You may also request to complete your census on paper or by phone.
Behind every Census, there are thousands of Canadians who help to make it a reality. For that, we thank you! By filling out the census, you're helping to pave the way for a better future for Canada and your community.
