The Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat and Statistics Canada will administer the 2024 Public Service Employee Survey (PSES). This public service-wide survey is designed to provide information to support the continuous improvement of people management practices in the federal public service.
The survey results allow departments and agencies in the Government of Canada to identify their areas of strengths and opportunities on topics such as employee engagement, official languages, equity and inclusion, and workplace well-being. Departments and agencies can use the results to benchmark their performance, track progress over time, and develop and refine strategies.
Employee responses contribute to making the public service a better place to work, which in turn leads to better outcomes for Canadians.
Access to the data will be restricted to a limited number of employees from Statistics Canada and the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat. They will only be able to access the anonymized data for statistical and research purposes. Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat analysts will adhere to the same security and confidentiality requirements as Statistics Canada employees.
Information given by employees may also be used by Statistics Canada for other statistical and research purposes. Although voluntary, employees' participation is important so that the information collected provides the most accurate and complete picture of the public service.

What are the objectives of this survey?
The Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat and Statistics Canada will administer the 2024 Public Service Employee Survey (PSES). This public service-wide survey is designed to provide information to support the continuous improvement of people management practices in the federal public service.
The survey results allow departments and agencies in the Government of Canada to identify their areas of strengths and opportunities on topics such as employee engagement, official languages, equity and inclusion, and workplace well-being. Departments and agencies can use the results to benchmark their performance, track progress over time, and develop and refine strategies.
How is this survey conducted?
The PSES is administered by Statistics Canada (StatCan) in partnership with the Office of the Chief Human Resources Officer (OCHRO) at Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS). Responding to the PSES is voluntary. The survey is administered to active federal public service employees and collected using an electronic questionnaire. Employees in participating departments and agencies will receive an email invitation from Statistics Canada, with a Secure Access Code to access the survey online. The link received should not be forwarded or shared with any other colleagues. The results from this survey will support the development of action plans and strategies to meet the needs of public servants and address any issues identified.
How long does it take to complete the survey?
It takes on average less than 30 minutes to complete the electronic questionnaire.
How was this survey developed?
The Public Service Employee Survey (PSES) was developed in partnership with the Office of the Chief Human Resources Officer (OCHRO) at the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) and Statistics Canada through consultative engagements with diverse stakeholders and employee networks within the public service. The content of the 2024 PSES was developed based on previous cycles and Statistics Canada then conducted qualitative interviews with public servants to test the questions.
Why should I participate in the Public Service Employee Survey (PSES)?
By taking part in the PSES, you can help your federal department or agency identify their areas of strength and opportunities related to topics such as employee engagement, official languages, equity and inclusion, and workplace well-being. Departments and agencies can use the results to benchmark their performance, track progress over time, and develop and refine strategies.
By participating in this survey, you will have the opportunity to express your views, share your experiences, and help create a positive workplace.
How will Statistics Canada safeguard the confidentiality of my information?
This survey is conducted under the authority of the Statistics Act, which ensures that the information provided will be kept confidential. Statistics Canada does not release any information that could identify individuals. Various confidentiality rules are applied to all data that are released or published to prevent the disclosure of any information deemed confidential. If necessary, data are suppressed to prevent direct or residual disclosure of identifiable data.

I am unable to complete the survey online due to accessibility issues. How can I make alternative arrangements to complete the survey?
