Getting out to the “green gym”

July 8, 2022, 11:00 a.m. (EDT)

The summer months are upon us, and the great outdoors now provide the landscape we need for some of our favourite activities. In 2019, 90% of Canadian households had a park or greenspace within 10 minutes of their home.

As the weather warms up, we’re pumping up our bike tires and lacing up our running shoes, because, in most areas, the grass won’t be green for very long! Almost three-quarters (72%) of Canadian households reported going for walks close to home—by far the most popular activity in 2019—while 26% hiked. Just over 1 in 5 households (22%) jogged, ran or rollerbladed, while about one-third (34%) reported cycling in 2019.

Whether you’re taking your bike to work or your dog for a walk in the park, the summer is a great opportunity to get active outdoors.
