On World Teachers' Day, StatCan highlights some toolkits for the classroom

October 5, 2022, 10:00 a.m. (EDT)

School's in, and in recognition of World Teachers' Day, we thought it would be a good idea to highlight some of our resources for educators (and students).

Our resources page has all kinds of tools for teachers, including Census educator toolkits  where you can discover fun, classroom-ready activities that will help you and your students gain a new perspective on your community.

We are proud to be launching two brand-new, user-friendly Census Education Toolkits for the 2022-2023 academic year. Both help students use data from the 2021 Census. The Secondary Classroom Toolkit was designed for use in secondary school classrooms focused on data literacy, civics and geography, while the Postsecondary Research Kit is for CEGEP, college and university students looking to use census data in their research.

Through these toolkits, students will gain an understanding of what types of data the census provides, why census data matter, and how to find census data online, including data on different populations and regions. Specifically for secondary-level students, we also adopted the game-based learning platform Kahoot! to deliver an engaging census quiz!

In addition to these two new census toolkits, you can continue to access the 2021 Census Teacher’s Kit, which was developed for use in elementary, intermediate and secondary classes across the country. The kit includes four activities that are appropriate for many subjects, including mathematics, social studies, and English or French language studies. So much to learn!
