The heat is here, Canada! It’s already mid-July and summer is in full swing, so here are some of the freshest, coolest summer numbers we’ve been soaking up:
A lively summertime…
- In 2022, Canadian households spent over $12.5 billion on recreational and sporting services, a category that includes live sports and recreational events.
A splash of fun...
- A record 11,168 permits were issued nationwide for residential construction of inground swimming pools in the second quarter of 2021.
Refreshing summer fruits…
- In 2022, 224 590 tonnes of fresh watermelons, 116 480 tonnes of fresh strawberries, and 37 330 tonnes of fresh peaches were available for consumption in Canada.
Enjoying the great outdoors…
Sun’s out, we’re out! People across Canada find different ways to make the most of the summer heat.
Many Canadians took to the trails:
- Hiking and backpacking (40%) were the most popular outdoor activities in 2021.
- In 2021, 26% of people partook in wildlife viewing or photography, outside the home.
While others cooled off by the water:
- 19% of people reported canoeing or kayaking in 2021.
- 15% of people went motorized boating or jet-skiing in 2021.
Some cast a line, while others pitched a tent:
- 18% of people fished in 2021, while another 18% of people camped in a tent.
