Brushing up with oral health care providers

April 11, 2024, 11:00 a.m. (EDT)

If you’re a dentist, dental hygienist or denturist operating a practice in Canada and you were selected to participate in our new survey, we want to hear from you.

To better understand the oral healthcare system from the perspective of its care providers, Statistics Canada has begun data collection of its new Survey of Oral Health Care Providers (SOHCP). Collection will be ongoing until July 11.

Statistics Canada is seeking participation from 5,100 randomly selected oral health care providers operating a business in the provinces and territories, in part to evaluate the readiness of the oral health care system for the anticipated increase in demand for services resulting from the launch of the Canadian Dental Care Plan.

The SOHCP will collect financial and operational information, including billing policies, staffing and vacancies, services offered, and patient capacity.

Those who have been invited to participate can visit our Information for survey participants and Trust Centre pages for more information on how we are conducting this survey while keeping personal and business information secure.

Note to readers

The Survey of Oral Health Care Providers supports the federal government’s commitment to improve oral health and foster equitable outcomes in oral health care nationwide—including the Canadian Dental Care Plan—as announced in Budget 2023. This survey is conducted under the authority of the Statistics Act, which ensures that the information provided will be kept confidential. No unauthorized people outside Statistics Canada will ever be permitted to see individual responses.
