Curious about how your province, city or town ranks in terms of life satisfaction and other measures of happiness and well-being?
Released today, a new geographic visualization tool can tell you about how people in your area rated their life satisfaction, sense of meaning and purpose, future outlook, loneliness, sense of belonging to a local community, and having someone to count on. The data are based on pooled estimates across multiple waves of the Canadian Social Survey.
Coming out on top were people living in Quebec, and Newfoundland and Labrador, who reported the highest levels of happiness—giving themselves an 8 or higher on the 10-point satisfaction scale. In addition to reporting high levels of life satisfaction, Newfoundland and Labrador residents were most likely to report a strong sense of belonging to the local community, as did those living in Prince Edward Island.
Want to drill down even lower to the city level? That’s possible, too! Happiness was highest among the Quebec cities of Rouyn-Noranda and Sorel-Tracy. Meanwhile a sense of belonging was greatest in the smaller communities of Winkler, in Manitoba, and Sarnia, in Ontario.
