Food service and drinking places sales rose 1.0% to $7.8 billion in October (seasonally adjusted). In dollar terms, Ontario (+1.0%), Alberta (+1.7%) and British Columbia (+0.8%) led the increase.
Sales were up over the course of the month at full-service (+1.4%) and limited-service (+0.9%) restaurants, as well as at special food services (+0.6%). Sales at drinking places declined 1.0%.
The prices Canadians paid for food purchased from restaurants (+5.7%) and for alcohol served at licensed establishments (+6.4%) were both up year over year in October.
